Process Approval, pH and Brix Testing
Our specialists assist both new and existing
food processors in obtaining the required approval from the Georgia
Department of Agriculture (GDA) to operate in the State of Georgia.
Extension personnel review the details of the manufacturing plan to
assure that it will result in a safe and wholesome product. We will also
provide any technical assistance needed to help the processors meet all
state and federal regulations during the approval process. Once it is
determined that the product and manufacturing process meet all
requirements, then a "Process Approval" letter to the GDA is issued. Click
here if you're a resident of Georgia to print out the information that we need and other
requirements for getting your process approval.

Better Process Control School
The Better Process Control School offers
instruction which fulfills the FDA and
USDA Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
requirements to certify supervisors of acidification, thermal processing, and
container closure evaluation operations during the canning of low-acid or
acidified foods. Companies which manufacture low-acid or acidified foods must
operate with a certified supervisor on the premises when processing as specified
in FDA’s 21 CFR Part 108.25(f) and 108.35(g) or in USDA’s 9 CFR 318.200 and
281.300. The UGA Better
Process Control School is typically offered in March each year. See the
current EFS calendar for more information.
